Daphne loved the SNCC community and wrote often about the influence that SNCC had on her life. An event to honor Daphne will be held in a few months. Anya will share the information with us and Anya and the Muse family would appreciate any thoughts and condolences.

I am soooo sorry. When I spoke with her last week she said she was going to try to make it to her mother's birthday (March 10). We had a 2 hour call, but I told her I'd call her back and told her "don;t go nowhere" till I did. Fooey, fooey!!!

For those on this list who didn't know her: she was a manager of our Drum & Spear Bookstore and later, after moving to Oakland, was a major staff person on Angela [Davis'] case, assisting Atty. Howard Moore, one of Angela's attorneys (and the brother-in-law of Julian Bond). She said Angela had visited her 3 times while she was in hospice because she (Angela) wanted to get more specific details of all the organizing mounted around her case that she didn't know.

Daphne was also an influential educator, both at UC/Berkeley and Mills College.

Anyania, I am sorry to hear about the passing of your mother this morning. Daphne lived a consequential life and she will be remembered for the many contributions she make to her friends, her students, her political comrades, and even strangers. Daphne can answer in the affirmative the most important question we all must answer "Did you help somebody along the way?"

Daphne was an intellectual whose love of books especially children;s books allowed those who patronized the Drum and Spear bookstore to become excited about learning and reading about the many contributions of our community. Your mother always expressed to me her pride in your accomplishments and her love for you.

Oh, no! This is very sad news. Daphne was such an inspiration to so many, over so many years. When she became a Seasoned Elder, as she so aptly put it, she just kept right on being Daphne as we knew her at Drum and Spear, and beyond.

What a loss, but as you said, a life very well lived.

My family is deeply appreciative of the huge outpouring of expressions of condolences and remembrances of the well lived life of my sister Daphne P. Muse. She was ever funny, insightful and appreciative of the friendship of each of you even until her last day. I have always been proud of my sister and that pride is amplified even more.

She mentioned to me many times that she led a charmed life. I affirmed that with her each time and surely know that part of her charmed life was the friends, family and colleagues who helped to fuel her spirit, joined her in the fight for justice and spread art, music and love around the world.

Thanks to each of you for being great friends with Daphne. We are all better people and spirits for having been in her presence.
