Freedom Summer, 1964, As a teen I attended the local freedom school in Ruleville, located on Highway 8 which was established by SNCC, and learned from a diverse faculty/teachers from all over the world. Their courage was a great inspiration in my life.
In 2005, I founded the Fannie Lou Hamer Women of Faith Cultural Center in Ruleville, MS, a grass roots outreach center for youth, offering mentoring and enrichment educationally, spiritually and culturally.
My mother Mrs. Minnie Walker was a friend of Mrs. Hamer. Their group made quilts and other items to raise money for the movement.
