I spent the summer of 1965 with SCOPE in Williamston, NC along with about a dozen other students from the 4-Colleges [Amherst, Smith, MT Holyoke & UMass]. Recruiting was done thru the Christian Assoc. on all 4 colleges & Rev. Mudge, from Amherst College was the prime mover as he been active in civil rights activities in the past & had been to Williamston, NC & knew Sara Small who was leader of Williamston's civil rights community. {more to follow 2/1/15)
