After graduating from Tougaloo College and the 'Ole Miss law school, Rueben Anderson worked for the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund on civil rights cases in Mississippi. In 1981 became a circuit court judge in Hinds County and in 1985 he was appointed to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
