Rev. John H. Scott
(1901 — 1980)

As remembered by Amatullah Umrani

I am writing on behalf of my father, Rev. John H. Scott, now deceased. During my entire childhood and beyond (1948 to early '70's), I observed his sacrifices as he led the fight for human dignity, including the right to vote in Lake Providence, LA. He was assisted in some areas by the NAACP Legal Counsel, and during the '60's by the US Justice Department. He gave testimony before the US Civil Rights Commission in 1962. This story is now recorded in the book, Witness To the Truth--My Struggle for Human Rights in Louisiana by John H. Scott with Cleo Scott Brown.
