Sending so much love and light to ALL SNCC vets, still here, and with the ancestors. Y'all are a beautiful family sprung from our Black freedom struggle, with connections to each other that transcend space and time. Your work on this earth rooted in love, truth, and the best of the human spirit leaves a lasting imprint on the planet that will ripple through the generations to come. Those of us who know and see you are incredibly privileged to do so and it's up to us to do our best to carry your work forward.

Oh, Maisha,

This is so, so beautiful. It is just what I needed to read today — a very gray, overcast day in DC. As you noted: Y'all are a beautiful family sprung from our Black freedom struggle, with connections to each other that transcend space and time. And reading this actually made me tear up.

Thank you for reminding us of what we did and what we continue to mean to each other ... and what we continue to do when possible. YES!!!!

Onward!

Thank you, Maisha, for your thoughtful text. I'm reminded of the song, "I'm gonna keep on running to see what the end is gonna be." We in SNCC bonded when we were in our teens and early twenties. We are senior citizens now but our quest for justice and equality has no time limit.

As our valiant soldiers leave the battlefield, I am reminded of the song we sang for such a time as this, "We'll Never Turn Back" ...

Thanks again for your love message

I worked closely with Chico in Southwest Georgia. He was warm, open and very funny. During the time I was there, I saw that the folks in Albany probably loved him more than any other SNCC worker, with the exception of Sherrod himself. His catch phrase is as apt today as it was in 1962: "This shit must cease!"

Although I haven't seen him in many decades, the knowledge that he was still going has always bolstered my faith that the Beloved Community continues.

I will miss Chico profoundly.
