I was a SCOPE volunteer during the summer of 1965 in Demopolis, Alabama, and returned there, without an SCLC connection, in 1966 as part of an independent Texas group called the Demopolis Project. Years of radicalism, notably SDS, followed all of that, and I'm still not repudiating, though I now make my living as a journalist. I've recently put my memories of Alabama into a book called If White Kids Die, available from bn and amazon.com.
Is anybody up for organizing a new SDS, Seniors for a Democratic Society?
