My work in Mississippi was miniscule compared to what so many others have done, a blip on the Movement screen.
I ran the COFO comminications center in Jackson, following in the steps of the late Bob Byers and of Mary King, who trained me. I also moved around the state quite a bit to help with actions, and used the statewide WATS line to roust sheriffs, FBI agents, Justice Dept people, reporters, whatever it took to protect and help our people.
My part was small, but it changed my life. I saw the ugly underbelly of US society, and my experiences that Freedom Summer defined how I have conducted my life thereafter.
Keep the faith!!
