[With a wave of student-led sit-ins Sweeping Across the South in the Spring of 1960, Ella Baker, SCLC's Executive Secretary, convinces Dr. King to drain SCLC's meager funds by providing $800 to finance a conference of student sit-in leaders. She issues a Call co-signed by Dr. King for a Youth Leadership Conference over the Easter weekend at Shaw College in Raleigh NC. Out of this conference emerges the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).]
