Support Needed for Deacons for Defense, Robert Hicks Family
November, 2007

Robert Hicks co-founded the Deacons for Defense in Bogalusa, Louisana. The family home served as a refuge for many civil rights, voter rights and union orginizers and leaders. The home burned to the ground a few weeks ago and the family lost everything including 57 albums of percious historical civil rights photos and documents.

As indicated, there will be an on-going effort to reach out to organizations, activist, historians, churches and schools involved with the Deacons and/or civil rights movement asking for monitary donations and historical artifacts.

Another friend volunteered to develop a lesson plan on the Deacons and explore the development of a scholarship with a Louisiana University.

Mr. & Mrs. Hicks are the parents of Chuck Hicks. Chuck Chaired the DC Host Committee for the 40th March on Washington and is also the Chair of the DC Black History Celebration Committee. Prayerfully, we will be able to bring the elder Hicks' to DC in February to honor them during one of our Black History Programs.

Below, is a list of ways people can help as well as information about the elder Hicks' and/or the Bogalusa Deacons.

Peace and many blessings, (202) 635-9337 Brenda, danburys@yahoo.com

NOTE: We would like to reach out to other members of the Deacons
