THE ROAR FOUNDATION, INC. is having its 7th Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Celebration, Thursday, October 5th through Saturday, October 7th, 2006 in and around Ruleville, Mississippi.
Thursday, October 5th events will be held at William Chapel Baptist Church in Ruleville, MS at 7:00 PM honoring former Pastor, the late Rev. J. D. Story. The theme for this event is "An Ordinary Man: Rev. Joe D. Story". Rev. Story, courageously, allowed mass meetings for civil rights workers to be held at William Chapel during a time when churches were being bombed throughout this nation.
Friday, October 6th is "Education Is Essential Day" as Civil Rights Veterans will gather at area high schools and colleges to share their experiences and/or show documentaries with students. Students will be given a chance to ask questions and interact with veterans.
Saturday, October 7th is ROAR'S 7th Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Day and Ms. E. P. McKnight will present her one woman show on Fannie Lou Hamer: "I Question America..." starting at 10:30 AM at the Fannie Lou Hamer Multi- Purpose Building. Immediately following the show, Ruleville's Mayor Shirley Edwards, Alderwoman Hattie Jordan and the City of Ruleville will lead the audience to the Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Garden to unveil the new developments which consist of a Gazebo, additional trees and lights among other things. Mr. Charles McLaurin will lead the Wreath Laying Ceremony.
