Hello Friends,

Mother Victoria Jackson Gray Adams asked me to give this message to ALL OF US:

She sends her:

"BLESSINGS FOR NOT ONLY THIS RESURRECTION PERIOD, BUT FOR THIS ENTIRE YEAR AND ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE WILL HAVE."

Amen.
And so it is!

I spoke with Mother Adams today, April 10, 2006, for at least thirty minutes. She sounded stronger than I have heard in some time and this was the longest we have spoken since her latest illness. She said she was feeling blessed and much, much better.

She, also, said that she especially thank "The Beloved Community" for keeping her in their prayers. She further asked if I would let you know that due to her illness and the many, many cards, letters and gifts she has received, she is not able to respond to everyone, personally, but appreciates being thought of.

She stated that she has heard from some people who she hadn't been in touch with for 20, 30 and even 40 years, how wonderful it was to be thought of in such a way and how much it means to her. She reiterated how good it feels to be appreciated after the many years of laboring the journey and ask that you continue to keep her and her family in your prayers. And in her on words "I am...."

Mother Victoria Gray Adams is very ill. Please, consider posting the "Well Wishes" for others to send their thoughts and prayers. The family is not receiving phone calls much, but Mrs. Adams does check the CRM website when she can.

My Dearest Mother Victoria Gray Adams,

I will start this conversation with you as I so often do, "please, permit me to pause for the cause to say Thank You.... for your time, knowledge, expertise, wisdom, courage, charisma, the things that you have done to make this world a better place and for being such an inspiration in my life and ROAR." Every Tuesday and/or Wednesday for the past several years at 7:00 PM I have, anxiously, looked forward to speaking with you always gathering my pen and notebook around 6:45 knowing that by the time we hung up the phone, I would have learned something new.

I will never forget the five beautiful days we spent together in October 2005: the one-on-one lessons in the hotel room uninterrupted at night. Now all I can do is meditate with you "in spirit" daily each morning at the same time you always have. The Minneapolis Crew and ROAR send their love and prayers as have many people I've spoken with. As we continue to pray for you, I am reminded of a card you sent me some time ago: "Thinking of you is just one of the ways I keep my mind on things above.....'cause one minute I'm thinking of you---and the next minute I'm thanking God for you! YOU'RE SPECIAL TO HIM AND TO ME." Mother Adams, please, get well soon. Love and Kisses!

Dear Dear Victoria Gray Adams,

Do you remember when you and I stood in front of a large audience to pay tribute to the memory ot that amazing sparkplug of the Hattiesburg movement, Johnnie Mae Walker? We were in New York City (or was it Washington DC?) and Johnnie Mae had recently passed.

How elegant you were, then, and now. Please get well soon, Mother Gray Adams. I'll be in Jackson this weekend, at the Veterans of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement gathering. And we know you will be standing tall next to us. Bless you.

Shalom-saalam-uhuru-amore,
Ira Grupper

Dear Elder Sister Mrs. Gray,

All of my family's deepest wishes for your healing and comfort. May your great heart be filled with the certainty of the great goodness you have given to the world... to its people, to make it a saner, more just place for the future gnerations to live and grow up in.

I think of you especially at this time when the First Annual Conference of the Veterans of the Missisippi Civil Rights Movement is preparaing to gather in Jackson Mississippi. All that we are and do, is in honor of you and the work that you and MFDP and did to open the doors and light the way for us.

I wish that I could personally come to visit you and comfort you in this challenging time in your life.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Yours in a Constant Struggle,

Peace Love and Freedom

Vickie:

I think of you in 1999, in Hattiesburg, when Mary Hamilton & I had inadvertently raised our voices. (I think we were arguing over whether Mary was going deaf.) "Now, LADIES! Now, ladies!", you said, both majestic & pacific. It tickled me that you were reminding us-- at our age-- of who we were & how to comport ourselves. And yes, we were abashed.

You always were courageous, resolute & quietly forceful: but now you are quite grand & quite splendid, as well. I have admired you, radiantly dressed & glowing from within, when you are about to preach. I know the courage you had then, the courage which saw you through the crucible of those years, & the courage you have shown in the choices you made, is serving you now. But know that we are with you & hold you in our prayers.

Dear Cousin Victoria,

I tried to call earlier this week but really do understand why you aren't able to take the calls. I am praying for your strength and recovery. I told Dorie that you are sick again and she sends her love to you as well. May God keep you in his grace.

Sincerely,
Cousin Joyce Ladner
