The First Day of issue of the Montgomery Bus Boycott Commemorative US postage stamp. which is part of the "To Form a More Perfect Union" block of Civil Rights History Stamps.
The Ceremony will be August 30th at the Davis Theatre on Montgomery Street across from the Rosa Parks Museum. As of now, the time planned is 11:30 am, but details and celebrity guest are still being worked out, and there should be publicity about it coming out soon.
There are great tie-in opportunities for all civil rights groups in town with these stamps, which will only be sold for a limited time, BUT initiative should be taken now as the post office is developing the PR blitz. They want to sell the stamps, and welcome cross-promotions. First day of issue cancellations from Montgomery could become collectors items, and could be later sold as fundraisers, or given to contributors to your group. The USPS will work with you in developing your own customized first day cover.
For more information, contact Debbie Hough of Customer service with the USPS at 244-7607, who should connect you with the assistance you need. Georgette Norman, at the Museum or Felicia Holley-Martin at the Mayors office should also be able to direct you to the USPS folks they have been in touch with.
