St. Augustine Movement March 2

Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 4-6 P.M. at the Willie Galimore Community Center, 399 S. Riberia St., Bruce Hartford of San Francisco, California, who is the Webspinner for the Veterans of Civil Rights Website, will be in St. Augustine to gather stories of those who participated in the Civil Rights Demonstrations of the 60's.

Mr. Hartford was one of many active Jewish participants of the Civil Rights Movement. He was a member of CORE, the Non-violent Action Committee in Los Angeles, on the field staff of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), participated in the March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his "I Have A Dream" speech, worked in Selma, Alabama on the voter rights campaign and was on the March to Montgomery. Mr. Hartford was chased down by the KKK during the Summer of '65. He states, "... in rural Crenshaw County --50 miles south of Montgomery and at least a century away from '...with liberty and justice for all'...learned when a dozen KKK chase you across half the county, a VW bug is not your vehicle of choice." The public is welcomed to attend.
