St. Augustine, 40th Anniversary
Premiere of Civil Rights Documentary, Slave Market Diaries
June 17-20, 2004
St. Augustine, Florida

The 40th ACCORD (Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations, Inc.) to host Celebration and Premiere of Civil Rights Documentary, Slave Market Diaries June 17-20, 2004 in the City of St. Augustine, Florida

Ms. Gwen Duncan, President of the 40th ACCORD and the 40th ACCORD committee members represent an impressive and dynamic group of individuals from the St. Augustine community with a commitment to communicating important historical context about the Civil Rights Movement while recognizing those brave individuals who collectively brought about change in our society. Throughout the weekend of June 17-20 the 40th ACCORD want to "Remember, Recognize, and Honor all of the 1963-64 Demonstrators who participated in the sit-ins, wade-ins, rallies, pray-ins, and sleep-ins of the St. Augustine, Florida Civil Rights Movement. They cordially invite all to honor the unsung heroes and sheroes

Central to a variety of events planned for the weekend celebration ( June 17-20) the 40th ACCORD is expected to host the premiere of the documentary, "Slave Market Diaries" recounting the little chronicled history about the Civil Rights Movement in the nation's oldest city, St. Augustine. Although currently still in final stages of production, Jacksonville, Florida filmmaker, Clennon L. King with support sought by the 40th ACCORD promises to complete a film that will relate this community's story with the highest level of integrity expected from this award winning journalist. The timely completion and installation of this documentary is where your financial and/or "in-kind" support is most critical.

With your help the 40th ACCORD can realize their vision for several "public installations" (temporary) making accessible to a diverse audience the story about the unsung heroes in the local and national community who helped effect change benefiting today's generations. Video monitors/kiosks are proposed for a variety of recognized and unrecognized landmarks having historic significance to the St. Augustine Movement e.g. church sites where mass meetings took place; the Monson Motel site, now demolished, it was the site where Dr. M.L. King was arrested; the old slave market and other relevant locales aimed to further engage the public in a creative, informative, and thought provoking manner throughout the weekend of celebration.
