The Children's Defense Fund Black Community Crusade for Children (Washington, DC) is sponsoring training for its summer Freedom Schools staff at the Univ. of TN, Knoxville, and Children's Defense Fund Haley Farm at nearby Clinton, TN, June 6-13.

Meeting objectives include: learning "about the life of Ella Baker and the empowerment of young people through CDF's Black Community Crusade for Children and Freedom Schools Movement" and celebrating and reflecting "on the fortieth anniversary of Mississippi Freedom Summer 1964-2004."

"We will feature the 1964 veterans on Monday and Tuesday evening, at Haley Farm. If you arrived on Sunday night and participated with us on Monday and Tuesday, a $100 registration fee would apply. This would include three meals each day." - from letter of Dr. Jeanne Middleton-Hairston, Director of Freedom Schools for CDF (co-author of MS: Conflict and Change, former professor at Millsaps College, Jackson, MS).

She will conduct sessions on "The History of the Freedom Schools Movement" during the day on Monday and Tuesday, June 7-8.

Evening participants 7:30-9 on Monday in the "Sankofa Circle: Voices of the Movement" will be Charlie Cobb, Dave Dennis, Lawrence Guyot, Hollis Watkins, and Ms. Sandy Trujillo of CDF.

Similarly on Tuesday will be Victoria Gray Adams, Unita Blackwell, and Connie Curry.

"I do hope that ... activists [from the sixties] can come to Haley Farm." Any and all welcome.
