Annual Selma March Commemoration
March 7
Selma, AL

The annual Selma March commemoration of the beatings on the Pettus Bridge in 1965 will take place on Sunday, March 7, in Selma, AL.

A coalition of Birmingham community organizations is organizing busses to take people to Selma. While many Birmingham people attend annually, the bus trip was created due to the anger over President Bush s selection of Bill Pryor, Alabama Attorney General, for the 11th Circuit Court. We shall protest this arbitrary and dictatorial misuse of Presidential powers.

The coalition is made up of Birmingham SCLC, Greater Birmingham NOW, the Alabama Dennis Kucinich for President campaign, People United, Southern Organizing Committee, Civil Rights Action Committee, and others.

The coalition seeks to make certain that the appointment of Pryor is temporary, ending in 2005.

Rev. Abraham Lincoln Woods, Jr., president of Birmingham SCLC, said of Pryor, If he had his way he would gut the 1965 Voter Rights Act. It's just frightening.
