Dear Civil Rights Movement Veteran:

The Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Memorial Committee invites you to attend the annual Memorial Service for the three slain civil rights workers, James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman. The service will be held on June 22 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Zion Church in the Longdale community in Neshoba County, Mississippi. The Longdale community is about ten miles east (Hwy 16) of Philadelphia and then about 2 miles north on county road 747.

Confirmed speakers thus far for this year's service are:

• Honorable William F. Winter, former Mississippi governor and for whom the University of Mississippi's Institute for Racial Reconciliation is named.

• Dr. Leslie Burl McLemore, Jackson, Mississippi city council member, professor of political science and director of the Fannie Lou Hamer Institute at Jackson State University

• Ms. Mabel Steele, Neshoba county civil rights pioneer

• Ms. Winson Hudson, Leake county civil rights pioneer

  Ms. Constance Curry, civil rights movement veteran and author, currently at Emory University

Representatives of other civil rights pioneer families and of the families of the three young men will participate in the service. Plans are being developed for a mass choir formed from several community churches. A dinner to which everyone is also invited is planned for after the service.
