For a work tracing the history of the 1963 Freedom Walk from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi I am looking to contact people who knew or worked with Sam Shirah of SNCC. The Freedom Walk was begun by white activist Bill Moore who was murdered in Gadsden, Alabama in April 1963. Ten volunteers from SNCC and CORE attempted to complete his Walk but were beaten and jailed at the Georgia/Alabama border. Am looking especially to connect with those who knew Sam, since he led the marchers into Alabama. Also looking for those who were on the March with him, or who knew the marchers and are willing to share their recollections. The Freedom Walkers were:
